The WBSO (R&D Tax Credit) provides Dutch innovative companies with a fiscal advantage on R&D labor costs. In 2026, the total WBSO budget is €1.817 billion.

  • Employer first bracket: 36% on the first €380,000 R&D cost base
  • Employer second bracket: 16% above €380,000
  • Starter first bracket: 50% (enhanced starter rate)
  • Self-employed fixed deduction: €15,551/year (min. 500 R&D hours)
  • Self-employed starter bonus: additional €7,781
