SLIM Subsidy 2026: Investing in Staff Development

Not every subsidy is about R&D. The SLIM subsidy (Stimulering Leren en ontwikkelen in mkb-ondernemingen — Stimulating Learning and Development in SMEs) helps SMEs invest in staff development and a learning culture. What is the SLIM subsidy?

SLIM stimulates learning and development within SMEs. Where the WBSO focuses on R&D, SLIM focuses on strengthening skills, career development and a learning-rich work environment. The scheme is intended for SMEs that want to invest in this.

Rates and amounts 2026

Subsidy rate: 60%
Maximum subsidy: €24,999
Application windows: March and September 2026
Maximum project duration: 12 months
Minimum eligible costs: €5,000 for activities A and C

The three activities

You apply for SLIM for one or more of the following activities:

Activity A — Company scan

A review of your company that results in advice on training and development: where does your company stand and what are its development needs?

Activity B — Career or development advice

Having career or development advice drawn up for employees, so they can work on their development in a more targeted way.

Activity C — Learning or development method

Developing or implementing a method that stimulates learning and development in your company, for example a company academy or a system for periodic development reviews.

Key conditions

You are an SME registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK).
You are not in financial difficulties.
The activities have not yet started at the time of application.
You provide an own contribution (co-financing) alongside the subsidy.
The aid falls under the de-minimis state aid rules.

Note: SLIM has fixed application windows. Submit your application during the correct window and before the activities start. Check the current information for the exact dates.
