Quantum Forward Challenge applications now open

Aumar Mustafa

Quantum Delta NL has launched the Quantum Forward Challenge, an innovation program targeting startups and SMEs looking to apply quantum technology to concrete applications in the life sciences and healthcare sector.

What is the Quantum Forward Challenge?

The Quantum Forward Challenge is an initiative by Quantum Delta NL to bridge the gap between quantum research and practical applications. The program specifically targets the life sciences sector, where quantum technology offers enormous potential for:

  • Drug discovery: Accelerated development of new medications
  • Medical imaging: Improved diagnostics through quantum sensors
  • Genomics: Faster and more accurate DNA analysis
  • Personalized medicine: Tailored treatments

What Does the Program Offer?

  • Funding: Up to €2 million available for selected projects
  • Guidance: Access to quantum experts and mentors
  • Network: Connections with hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutions
  • Facilities: Access to quantum hardware and infrastructure

Who Can Participate?

The challenge is open to:

  • Startups applying quantum technology in life sciences
  • SMEs looking to integrate quantum solutions
  • Researchers wanting to translate their quantum research into practical applications

Why Is This Important?

The Netherlands is a frontrunner in quantum technology, with strong research groups in Delft, Amsterdam, Leiden, and Eindhoven. The Quantum Forward Challenge helps translate this knowledge into concrete products and services that can improve healthcare.

Application Process and Deadlines

Applications are submitted in two stages: an initial concept note describing the project's quantum approach, life-sciences use case, and consortium composition, followed by a full proposal for shortlisted teams. The concept note must include a clear go-to-market hypothesis, a 24-month workplan, and a credible budget. Successful proposals typically combine deep quantum expertise with a clinical or industrial validation partner. Plan at least four to six weeks for drafting, internal review, and matching funding letters before submission. Late or incomplete applications are rejected without review.

How Manna Can Help

Manna's agentic AI matches your R&D portfolio against open subsidy schemes, drafts the technical narrative in the language reviewers expect, and tracks deadlines across regional, national, and EU programs. For quantum projects we combine WBSO automation with grant scouting so a single submission funds multiple workstreams.
